“Did you know that
your great-great-grandmother was born in England?”
While dealing with the loss of her sister and best friend
last winter (2013), my mom was going through various old family papers and
photos. She came across the death notice for her great-grandmother Drusilla
Faith Worville, which listed England
as her birthplace. She had previously thought that her family had been in the
Unites States for many generations. This intriguing discovery sparked her
interest in finding out more about our family history. I have always been
curious about my heritage and a natural-born researcher so I became her
co-pilot on the journey.
This blog will record the details of our search into the
history and secrets of our family, including sources, photos, stories and
anything else we uncover along the way. We will start with my mom’s parents,
the Whichelo and Small roots, since it was her ancestor
that got the ball rolling. My grandmother saved all kinds of old papers,
pictures and memorabilia so we have a lot to work with on those lines already.
Eventually, we will “branch” out to the other side of my tree, the Gabriel and Giesinger roots, and beyond. Who knows where or how far this
fascinating hobby will take us?
